about

With this recording we wanted to capture the spirit of our favourite New Orleans Jazz revival era musicians who recorded some beautifully rough and largely improvised sessions at dance halls such as San Jacinto Hall in New Orleans in the 40s-60s. Displaced by time and space, we figured Grossmans Tavern, a hub for New Orleans jazz music in Toronto, is the closest thing to our San Jacinto Hall. This is a collection of tunes from a session at Grossman's in the afternoon of May 25th, 2018, complete with the scuffling and clinking of Grossman's Kitchen staff, day drinkers, and the sounds of Spadina Avenue.
